That is why Manheim's translation-available only in a large format edition illustrated by Maurice Sendak-is the only one I recommend. For the fantasies, this meant capturing the whimsical nature of these stories and making them accessible to a new audience. For Hitler, this included carrying over some grammatical errors in letting this historical figure speak for himself. Manheim was Jewish and was certainly not sympathetic to Hitler, yet in the latter book, he set the standard he would create for his translations of fantasy works: he would strive to emulate the author's language and wordplay into English.
